Bob Weir’s new wolfpack
Bob Weir is a founding member of the Grateful Dead. Let that sink in for a moment. Founding Member of an iconic rock band. His albums span 5 decades of music. He has achieved international stardom (before the influx of digital marketing). And he created, not just a fanbase, but an entire sub-culture of people. When it comes to musical legends, there’s not many artists that even hold a candle to him. He’s coming to BeachLife Festival on May 3rd, and he’s not rolling solo. Bob Weir is bringing his wolfpack.
Bob Weir &Wolf Bros is Weir’s new trio, alongside Jay Lane and Don Was. Lane is the longtime drummer of Weir’s side project: Ratdog, and he also toured with Further on occasion. Don Was is the bass player who introduced Weir to John Mayer, thus creating Dead n Co.
“Wolf Bros is something that really took its roots back in the spring of 2015 when Don Was came up to TRI and helped us piece together Dead & Company,” Bob Weir said of the new project in a statement to Jambase.com. “For a while now I’ve been itchin’ to explore our songs in a trio setting. An upright bass, my acoustic or electric guitar and a drummer. We did some rehearsals this past spring and it was big fun—and that’s the whole idea. We were kickin’ around Dead songs as well as tunes from my back pages. I’m pretty sure we’re gonna have a big adventure with this…”
