Jim’s “Ultimate BeachLife Surf Trip Mix-Tape Playlist”
Because I grew up in Hermosa Beach and play in a band affiliated with the punk scene, you’d probably expect that my playlist would be dominated by bands like Black Flag, Circle Jerks and the Descendents… and when I’m in the car driving to check the surf or going to a show, it usually is. There’s nothing like a little “Bikeage,” “Wild in the Streets” or “Jealous Again” to get the blood pumping, but that doesn’t mean aggro punk rock is all I listen to 24/7.
Some of the most crusty old punk rockers I know admit to a soft spot for Fleetwood Mac and Elton John. I’m not going to crank the GBH on a date night with the wife, or when I’m hanging with the kids on the beach. There’s playlists appropriate for every situation. When I’m down in Palm Desert it’s Frank Sinatra and Louie Prima all day. Road trips are great for classic rock, Tom Petty, Boston, Bowie and Queen.
So with this in mind, I made my “Ultimate BeachLife Surf Trip Mix Tape Playlist”. Am I missing anything?
